Reading Challenge: James Fairfax by Jane Austen and Adam Cam

Postby Baker » 30 Apr 2010, 07:20

OK, ladies, I think it's time we let Beggar of Love rest and turn our thoughts to our next challenge.

Let me remind you that the whole point of the reading challenges is to coax us out of our normal reading zones and try something we might not otherwise read. They challenge us to try something different. Then you get to rave, moan, whine, or gush about it with others who have also read it.

This challenge is brought to us by FranW.

James Fairfax by Jane Austen and Adam Campan (Norilana Books)

It's same-sex marriage in Jane Austen's Regency England!

In this stunning, gender-bending, stylish dance-of-manners version of Jane Austen's beloved classic novel Emma -- an alternate Regency where gay marriage is commonplace and love is gender-blind -- matchmaking Emma Woodhouse tries to find a suitable spouse for her lover Harriet Smith, and is embroiled in the secrets of the relationship between the mysterious and accomplished James Fairfax and the handsome Frank Churchill..

I'd like to ask Fran to tell us why she selected this book.

As always, I'm calling for those brave souls who are willing to join the challenge.

Amazon has it, sadly. Better World Books only has one used copy in the US. Rest are in the UK. Borders doesn't have it. I would think we could get it from the publisher, no? Actually, no. They suggest B&N. Here

Got it ElaineB, thanks. I ordered and it should be here in 7-10 days. I'm in. WooHoo!

I picked it because I love regency romances (Heyer and Austen) and I thought a gay and lesian one would be a kick. This book, and Norilana Press books in general, have got rave reviews. Other than that, I know nothing about it. I like to gamble :-) I sure didn't notice the page count!!!

And, um, no, I don't know where to buy it from. D'oh! I think B&N carries it.

Editing to add: Book Depos in the UK also carries it.

Sue and I are in and we will be re-reading Emma this weekend. Oh, we've just ordered James Fairfax via book depository :-) .

I'm in. I bought the book a while back when I was ordering some other Norilana books, but I haven't read it yet.
